Exercise boosts brain power - change your brain - Exercise improves the performance of the brain. People who have exercised throughout their lives outperform sedentary people of the same age in tests that measure long-term memory, reasoning, attention, and problem solving skills.
The brain accounts for 20 percent of the body’s total energy needs. We need to exercise on a regular basis for optimal brain performance.
It doesn’t take a lot of physical activity to achieve these cognitive gains. If all you do is walk several times a week, your brain will benefit.
The best results come from aerobic exercises. In fact, aerobic exercise cuts your chances of getting Alzheimer’s disease during your lifetime by more than 60 percent.
Exercise also improves mental agility in younger adults and in children. School children’s academic performance improves when they exercise regularly. Schools should schedule in recess twice a day. Office workers are more productive and have more creativity when they exercise regularly.
So be sure to do some brain exercises by starting a regular physical fitness program. Exercise does the brain good.
