Tips for Getting More Ideas

Sponge, Egg, Light. Remember this simple three-part formula, and get ready for life-changing ideas. Remember, one good idea in your life can get you rich!

If you want to get improve your fitness routine, improve your lifestyle, your career, or even get rich, what is the one thing that you need to help you achieve your dream? A solid idea.

Our lives are the summation of our thoughts and ideas. Ideas are thoughts, and thoughts are everything. The quality of our ideas determines everything about our lives. Everything except those events that happen to us that are beyond our control.

A good idea can revolutionize your life. It can solve your problems and help you reach your goals. A good idea is an idea that results in a change that is beneficial to you.

So how do we get good ideas? Use this three-step process for getting the ideas you need to solve your problems and to make your dreams a reality. You can remember the technique by remembering three simple words: Sponge, Egg, Light.

The first step in getting the idea(s) you need involves making your mind into a SPONGE. Soak up all the information you can find about your problem. Read all you can about it. Find experts in that area. Turn all the facts you have acquired about that subject over and over in your mind, looking at them at different angles.

Over the course of time, you will have grown tired of trying to piece together a solution from all the data that you have on the problem. This is a key stage in the process. You have collected all the facts you can on the problem, then you have turned it over and over in your mind, looking at the problem in different ways.

It is at this stage that we recommend that you try to forget about the problem for a few days and let your amazing subconscious mind go to work on it.

This leads to the next step in the idea generation process, which is to let your problem incubate (the EGG stage). Sit on the problem, and leave it alone. Do other things. Drop the problem completely from your mind. Listen to music, go for a walk, read a book, workout, etc. Just leave the problem alone for awhile.

Ideas often come at unexpected times, and usually during this down time, which is why this EGG stage is such an important part of the process.

If you have done a good job up to this point of the process, you have a good chance that you will get the idea you need when you least expect it. This is the LIGHT stage, or the “a-ha” stage. The idea will often seem to have come out of nowhere. But, oftentimes, it was because of the preparatory work you did in the first two stages of the process – the SPONGE and EGG stages that led to the LIGHT stage.

Here are some helpful suggestions for getting more ideas:

First, vary your input. The more elements of the world which are stored away in your mind, the more chances you have for getting that unique combination of information that is needed to get an idea.

Your mind can only come up with an idea based on some information that is put into it. You don’t get something from nothing. New ideas are just a unique rearrangement of some information that has been previously put into your mind.

The more information we have, the more unique combinations we can come up. We are limited by the depth and breadth of our knowledge base.

The habit of constantly expanding your experience helps tremendously in getting better ideas. Read books, magazines, and meet people outside of your field. Someone once said that one-third of your reading should be in subjects outside of your field, or completely unrelated to your main interest. Feed your mind with a rich, diversified diet of good information on a regular basis.

Second, clarity is important. Be clear in your mind about the kind of ideas you are looking for. The more clear you are on what you want, the better the chances are you will get the idea you need to solve your problem or reach your particular goal.

The Mindstorming Technique:

Try to set aside 30 minutes to 60 minutes per day for this exercise.

At the top of a sheet of paper, write down your goal. Underneath that written goal, ask a question, such as “How can I best achieve this goal (be specific as to what your goal is).

Then, try to come up with 20 new ways to reach that goal or solve that problem. You may or may not come up with 20 ideas. And most of your ideas during this exercise will not be very good. But write down your ideas no matter how ridiculous they are. Do not filter them out.

The most important thing this exercise does is it deeply imbeds your goal into your subconscious mind. Let your subconscious mind go to work on solving it.

Do this mindstorming technique each day, and when you least expect it, you may find that some really good ideas pop into your mind about how to reach that goal or solve that problem.

Always remember, just one solid idea can dramatically change your life for the better!
