List of High Protein Foods - Good Sources of Protein Foods high in protein - find out which sources of protein have the highest ratings.
In this article, we provide
a list of high protein foods as rated by their biological value (B.V.). We also mention other good sources of protein that
don't necessarily have a high biological value score but are still very good for helping you lose weight, build strong muscles, and stay healthy.
The following list of high protein foods is ranked by the best sources of protein:
Whey Protein
If you're looking for good sources of protein, it doesn't get any better whey protein and egg protein. Both score highest
on the list of high protein foods.
Whey protein has the highest biological value (B.V.) of all the protein sources. Biological
value is the proportion of absorbed protein that is retained in the body for maintenance and/or growth.
Whey Protein Vs Soy
Whole Egg Protein Before Whey protein was fully understood, whole egg protein was thought to be the best protein source. Egg protein
used to be the protein that all other protein foods were measured against. That was until whey protein was discovered.
But next to whey protein, egg protein is considerably better than other protein sources. It has a very good amino acid profile. Egg protein has gotten bad press coverage in recent
years because of cholesterol. But while the egg yolk has high cholesterol, the egg white is not high in cholesterol and is one of the best sources of protein out there.
If you're looking to build muscle and are on a bodybuilding diet, egg white is one of the best sources
of protein. Try soft boiled eggs for breakest, cut out the egg yolk, and you have one of the best bodybuilding meals. I recommend
eating egg whites with oatmeal on the side.
Beef Protein Beef, especially lean beef, is an excellent source of protein and is always top of mind when it comes
to foods high in protein. Beef's biological value ranks third behind whey protein and whole egg protein.
When adding beef to your meal plans, make sure you go for lean cuts of beef.
Milk Protein (Casein) Any list of high protein foods would have to give mention to casein (milk). Milk protein is slow digesting and keeps you fuller longer. Milk protein (casein) is naturally
high in glutamine - higher in fact than whey, soy, or egg. Glutamine has many benefits and is a good supplement not only
for bodybuilders, but also for others who want to get the most out of their fitness routines.
On the downside, many people have milk allergies, and whole milk is high in cholesterol. In addition, some
people are lactose intolerant. Those people may benefit from whey protein or soy protein.
If you're looking to put on quality muscle, drinking milk can be one of the best ways to
help you gain weight and gain muscle. Doing the squat exercise and drinking plenty of milk each day will build
muscle faster than just about anything else.
Soy Protein See the above link to read more about the benefits of soy protein.
Rice Rice has a biological value (B.V.) of 59. Many people are probably surprised to hear that
rice can be one of the good sources of protein.
Beans Beans have a biological value (B.V.) of 49. Many vegetarians rely on beans in their meal
plans for good sources of protein. Just be sure avoid others that have eaten too many of them.
Chicken (without the skin) While chicken is not one of the highest sources of protein (compared with a few others on this list),
we highly recommend meal plans that have chicken as the main source of protein.
Chicken breasts are a main staple in my diet (microwaved chicken without the skin). Chicken is a
good substitute for red meat since too much red meat can wreck havoc with your heart.
Fish Fish is another of the good sources of protein. It is recommended that you eat particular kinds
of fish at least three times per week (watch out for the mercury content with some types of fish, however).
We strongly recommend salmon. Read more about the benefits of salmon here.
Trukey Breast Turkey is not just for Thanksgiving anymore. Turkey breast (without the skin) is another of the foods
high in protein that can help you lose weight and stay lean. Turkey is also high on the list of protein sources for many bodybuilders who
are looking to build muscle. Turkey is also a great source of protein for any weight loss meal plan.
Nuts Almonds, walnuts, and some other nuts (especially unsalted) are another source of protein, although they
are more for snacks. Nuts do not contain anywhere near as much protein as whey, egg, meat, milk, or fish, but they do
contain essential vitamins and minerals, and they help you beat the munchies in between meals.
We highly recommend that you snack on unsalted, unprocessed nuts - especially almonds and walnuts.
This list of high protein foods will keep your muscles strong and will help you lose fat.
